This is one of the most fascinating cities in the US. It has a very large historic centre where the old, "Gone with wind" style mansions are just amazing to look at. It is very hot and humid. The people are most friendly and pleasant.
The last three days we have been out of communication as we were in a house in the woods in the middle of the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina. This was the meeting point with the rest of the family and we were a party of 12. We visited a Cherokee Indian Village where I was attacked by the "nasty" indians but escaped with my scalp. We also visited the Biltmore Estate and if one wakes up there could easily think that he is in the Loire Valley. Now we are in Charleston, South Carolina.
Today we were part of history as we re-enacted with the actors the proclamation of independence and have been booing the British who were nasty towards the colonials. Tonight we are sleeping in Henderson North Carolina which is half way towards Asheville.
Today we visited George Washington's estate at Mount Vernon and drove down to Colonial Williamsburg historic town which we will visit tomorrow. For those of you who wondered if we were on the train in DC when the accident took place, obviously we were not. We did however contemplate that morning taking the train but we decided to take a taxi in the end.
Today we visited two great museums, the Air & Space Museum and the Natural History Museum. We spent over 7 hours and kids really enjoyed every bit of it. We got out just before the night came as we were afraid of all exhibits becoming alive.
